
The Minority in Parliament has requested that Godfred Yeboah Dame, Minister of Attorney General and Justice, make the government’s position on the anti-LGBTQI+ Bill. The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill will get the needed support if government states its position.
The Minority believes that knowing the government’s position on the bill will help to frame the discourse.
Before the house reopens later this October 2021, memoranda on the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill are presently being received.
People of the same sex who engage in sexual behavior might face up to ten years in prison under the bill. If the bill becomes law, various kinds of support for the LGBTQ+ community will be criminalized as well.
It has, however, sparked extensive debate, with many people voicing differing opinions regarding certain passages in the treaty.
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, speaking to the media – after an Islamic group from Northern region, petitioned the House to pass the anti-LGBTQI Bill, said such acts will not be tolerated in Ghana.
