Anti-LGBTQ+ bill is unnecessary – Ndebugre

Its time wasting

Mr. John Ndebugre, a former Zebilla MP and private legal practitioner, has criticized anti-LGBTQ bill supporters, claiming they are manipulating the country. He stated that the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill is unnecessary and time wasting. He made these hard revelation on citi fm’s flagship program, the Eye witness news.

“That Bill is absolutely unnecessary. They are wasting everybody’s time,” he said on the radio program.

“The Bill is saying don’t ever associate if you are persons of the same gender and I cannot support such a situation,” the former MP added.

Mr. Ndebugre was also taken aback by the idea that LGBTQ people’s freedom of choice isn’t a basic human right. “It is in the constitution that you can make a choice to associate with anybody you want. Why are you saying we cannot associate?” he asked.

“Look at the time they have wasted today. It is on our charge, and it is on the charge of the consolidated fund,” Mr. Ndebugre noted.

Mr. Ndebugre also believes the bill is extensively based entirely on assumptions. “The Bill speculates that if I associate with [another man], the purpose is for us to have sex. We don’t make laws based on speculation” he stated.

He also agreed with Akoto Ampaw that a bill like this could only be introduced by the executive branch of government. Thus in accordance with Article 108 of the constitution because it would result in government spending.

“Look at the time they have wasted today. It is on our charge, and it is on the charge of the consolidated fund,” Mr. Ndebugre noted.

The Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament is now holding public hearings on the bill’s memoranda.

LGBTQ+ Memoranda

On the issue of sexual orientation, the Committee has received over 150 memoranda from religious entities and civil society.

People of the same sex who engage in sexual behavior might face up to ten years in prison under the bill. If the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill 2021 is signed, the LGBTQ+ community will be criminalized.
